Singing to Jesus on American Idol?!
posted by Amy on April 12, 2008 at 11:46 AM in Christianity, Music, Pop Culture, Television

This has been all over the blogosphere already, so I am a bit behind the curve. But apparently, on American Idiot Idol the final 8 sang the favorite worship anthem "Shout to the Lord" - TWICE.  I don't watch American Idol.  Ever.  So I am not sure what to make of this.  Marketing ploy, or genuine expression of faith?  Cynical as it may be, I'm thinking its the former.  However, should that really matter?  Paul says in Philippians 1:15-18:

It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

So I guess it is pretty cool, if not totally bizarre and inexplicable.
